What is the Canadian Acoustical Association?
The CAA is the professional, interdisciplinary organization that :
- fosters communication among people working in all areas of acoustics in Canada
- promotes the growth and practical application of knowledge in acoustics
- encourages education, research, protection of the environment, and employment in acoustics
- is an umbrella organization through which general issues in education, employment and research can be addressed at a national and multidisciplinary level
The CAA is a member society of the International Institute of Noise Control Engineering (I-INCE) and the International Commission for Acoustics (ICA), and is an affiliate society of the International Institute of Acoustics and Vibration (IIAV).

CAA Student Travel Support Awards – Deadline May 1st 2024
Canadian Acoustical Association Student Travel Support Awards are available to help with costs associated with participating in the CAA/ASA 2024 joint meeting. Students are eligible to apply if they are members of the Canadian Acoustical Association, and are travelling 350 km or more to attend the meeting. Priority will be given to applicants who will be presenting a paper or poster at the meeting. As our new Principal Engineer – Architectural Acoustics & Vibration, you will take on responsibility for leading our terrific team of engineers and technicians in Ontario. You will also be responsible for helping further develop our client base in this key growth area for SLR. You will also be undertaking technical work to support the wider business development activities.

Role
Success in this complex, multi-faceted role will depend on your demonstrated skills and depth of experience in staff leadership, business development, and client service, as well as your technical mastery of the field.
You’ll work with a diverse array of private and public clients to design and develop building and architectural acoustic solutions and enjoy a flexible and dynamic work environment, where your
success will depend on your collaborative working style, your consultative approach to clients, and your superb technical skills.Responsibilities:
• Acoustics, and vibration assessments on challenging and stimulating projects encompassing:o Building acoustics: examples include institutional, health care, commercial, educational, and recreational facilities for architectural acoustics, building service noise control, environmental noise control, and vibration-sensitive applications.
o Building vibration: examples include the design of floors for vibration from occupant activity (footfalls), vehicle-induced vibrations, building services, and design for sensitive medical and research equipment.
• Preparation and presentation of technical reports.
• Coordination of projects to maintain schedules and budgets.
• Liaising with the SLR Canadian Acoustics & Vibration Manager to align business development activities with the wider strategy.

Qualifications/Education/Memberships:
• 10+ years of experience working in acoustics and/or vibration control
• Direct experience in building acoustics and project management is mandatory
• Structural vibration design experience is an asset
• Demonstrated current environmental acoustics, noise, and vibration skill set, including understanding the fundamentals and approaches used to measure, predict, and evaluate building acoustics, noise, and vibration
• Experience using any of CadnaA, CATT, Odeon or EASE, SAP 2OOO, Visual Basic, Strutt, or Matlab is an asset
• Established current working knowledge of provincial, local, and industry specific regulations and guidelines
• Financial/business acumen, and a successful track record in proposal development and RFP responses is crucial
• Ability to relate to existing and potential clients to foster and maintain existing relationships
• Professional status in Ontario (credentials in other provinces an asset)
• Degree in engineering, physical science, or environmental science. Master’s degree preferred.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel (some short-term travel expected)
